About Salesforce Apex

Apex is the programming language of the Salesforce platform. It looks like Java and runs on Salesforce servers, so you can add business logic that clicks alone cannot cover: triggers that react to record changes, classes that process data in bulk, REST services and scheduled jobs.

This page collects our Apex tutorials and ready-to-use scripts. Each post explains the code, shows how to test it, and points out common mistakes.

Tips for Learning Apex

  1. Practise in a free Developer Edition org or a sandbox, never in production.
  2. Write bulk-safe code from the start: no SOQL queries or DML statements inside loops.
  3. Write a test class for every trigger and class, and test with many records, not only one.
  4. Learn the governor limits early. They explain most Apex errors you will see.
  5. Use a handler class for trigger logic, so the code is easy to read and test.
