Quick answers to key questions

Short answers to the questions above, so you can revise before an interview.

  • Automation and automation tools in Salesforce. Automation means the system performs business steps without manual work. The main tools are Flow (record-triggered, screen, scheduled and autolaunched), Approval Processes, and Apex triggers for complex logic. Workflow Rules and Process Builder are retired, so new automation should use Flow.
  • Relationships in Salesforce. Lookup (loose link between two objects), master-detail (the child depends on the parent), many-to-many through a junction object, self relationship (an object related to itself), hierarchical relationship (only on User), and external and indirect lookups for external objects.
  • What are triggers? A trigger is Apex code that runs automatically before or after a record is inserted, updated, deleted or undeleted.
  • Where is security in the org? Profiles and Permission Sets are in Setup. Sharing Settings (OWD, sharing rules) are also in Setup. Field-level security is under Object Manager, then the object, then Fields and Relationships, then the field, then Set Field-Level Security.

Case origin Email: set Status and Priority

In a flow, use a before-save record-triggered flow on Case with the condition Origin equals Email. As a trigger:

trigger CaseTrigger on Case (before insert) {
    for (Case c : Trigger.new) {
        if (c.Origin == 'Email') {
            c.Status = 'New';
            c.Priority = 'Medium';
        }
    }
}

Create a Contact when an Account is created

trigger AccountContactTrigger on Account (after insert) {
    List<Contact> contacts = new List<Contact>();
    for (Account acc : Trigger.new) {
        contacts.add(new Contact(
            LastName = acc.Name,
            Phone = acc.Phone,
            AccountId = acc.Id
        ));
    }
    insert contacts;
}

The trigger runs after insert because the Account Id is needed to link the Contact. All Contacts are created with a single insert, so it works for bulk loads too.
